William G. Wormuth Sr., 77, of Carbondale, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday evening, March 23, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Carbondale, he was the son of the late Augustus and Catherine (Moran) Wormuth. William was a hardworking and dedicated man, known for his skill as a carpenter and his strong work ethic. He was employed for many years at Gentex Corporation prior to his retirement. William also took great pride in his longtime active membership with the Columbia Hose Company No. 5.
A man who valued the simple joys of life, William especially cherished the time he spent with his family and friends. His faithful dog, Molly, was a constant and beloved companion. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, devotion to those he loved, and the lasting impact he made on all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his six children: Melissa Durst and her husband, Sean; Monica Tokarz and her husband, Jeremy; Matthew Wormuth; Michele Mosolino and her companion, Tony Vancosky; Cynthia Arthur; and William Wormuth Jr. and his companion, Tami Rosar. He is also survived by three siblings: Robert Wormuth and his wife, Irene; Diane Kalasinski; and Ann Marie Wesner; sixteen grandchildren, William, Shauna, Riley, Makenzie, Kalob, Liam, Emma, Bennett, Aria, Theo, Philip, Makayla, Marcus, Jessie, Summer, and Ryan; six great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five siblings, Mary Lou Wormuth, Cathy Lawler, Tommy Wormuth, John Augustus Wormuth, and Donnie Wormuth; his step-son, Michael Wandell; and his former wife, Tina Thurston Wormuth.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to Kayla Bullock of Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the compassionate care and support shown to William and his family.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026, from the Lawrence A. Gabriel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 74 North Main Street, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Rosary Parish, St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 North Church Street, Carbondale. Entombment will follow at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend William’s viewing on Friday, March 27, 2026, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
