Stephen Michael Semonich, 85, of Olyphant, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, December 5, 2025. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Elaine Marlene Wanas Semonich, who died in September 2020.
Born in Peckville, he was the son of the late Stephen and Mildred (Dragon) Semonich. Steve was a proud United States Army veteran, having served in the U.S. Military Army Band at West Point, NY. A 1958 graduate of Olyphant High School, he later attended the University of Scranton.
Steve retired from Bank of America, Moosic, in 2004, and had previously been employed by Ford Motor Company in New Jersey. He was a member of St. Carlo Acutis Parish at St. Patrick’s Church, Olyphant, and a former member of Holy Ghost Church. He also belonged to the Musicians Union of Scranton and was an accomplished trumpet and French horn player with the Lenoxville Community Band, the Crystal Band of Scranton and the Penn State Scranton Chorale and Campus Jazz Band.
He is survived by one daughter, Jill Carney and husband, John, Alexandria, VA; one son, Stephen M. Semonich, Jr. and wife, Jeannette, St. Petersburg, FL; two grandchildren, Ainsley and Caitlin Carney; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, John Semonich; and two sisters, Betty Squirlock and Barbara Gadomski.
The funeral will be Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. from Hudak-O’Shea & Gabriel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 115 Garfield Avenue, Olyphant, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, St. Carlo Acutis Parish, 200 Delaware Avenue, Olyphant, to be celebrated by Rev. Scott Sterowski, Pastor. Interment will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Blakely.
Family and friends are invited to attend Steve’s viewing on Friday, December 12, 2025, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
