Samuel G. Bianco, 80, formerly of Carbondale, passed away Dec. 10, 2021, at the Forest City Nursing and Rehabilitation Home.
Born in Carbondale, son of the late Carmine and Josephine (Jessie) Juliano Bianco, Sam graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale, in 1959 and the University of Scranton in 1963. After college graduation, Sam served four years in the United States Air Force. Following his service, he worked in the journalism field at various news outlets. Sam worked for the Catholic News in New York City and retired from the Times Herald-Record in Middletown, N.Y.
Sam is survived by his brother, Joseph and wife, Ruth, Fredericksburg, Va.; nieces, Tricia Bianco, Arlington, Va.; and Marci Spellman, Fredericksburg, Va.; special great-nieces, Grace and Sophia Spellman, Fredericksburg, Va.; two aunts, Angela Hitchko, Endwell, N.Y.; and Rosemary Juliano, Saugerties, N.Y.; and several cousins.
The family would like to thank the staff at both the Forest City Personal Care Home and the Forest City Nursing and Rehabilitation Home for their excellent care.
The funeral will be Thursday from Lawrence A. Gabriel Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 74 Main St., Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale. Interment at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill.
A viewing will be held Thursday at the funeral home from 9 to 10:30 a.m.
