RoseMary (Polito) DePietro

October 11, 1932 — March 26, 2026

Catonsville MD

RoseMary (Polito) DePietro, formerly of Olyphant, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at St. Agnes Hospital, Catonsville, MD. Her husband, the late Rocco DePietro, passed away in 2017. They were married for 57 years at the time of his death.

Born on October 11, 1932, in Archbald, PA, daughter of the late Frank and Vincenta (Vergara) Polito, she was a former member of Holy Ghost Church and St. Patrick’s Church, Olyphant.

RoseMary had a 40 + year career as a registered nurse, including positions held in New York City’s Mount Sinai Hospital, providing care at St Joseph’s summer camp for disabled children, and as an instructor for a certified nursing assistant program. She ended her storied career with a long-standing position at Mercy hospital in Scranton, PA. RoseMary was bilingual, often heard speaking Italian to her sisters. She spent much of her time in the family kitchen, serving up traditional Italian dishes like baccala, pizza rustica (Easter pizza), and peppers and eggs.

RoseMary was friendly and talkative, and it was very common for her to walk into a grocery store or church and by the end of the trip know the life story of the person standing across from her. She was a devoted Catholic, watching EWTN, listening to spiritual music and participating in yearly St Joseph’s novenas in her community. She was thrilled to be able to see Mother Teresa’s visit to The University of Scranton in 1987.

RoseMary’s grandchildren called her “Nonna” and she always enjoyed spending time with them and hearing their latest stories.

RoseMary’s survivors include a son, Michael, and his wife, Lisa, Hockessin, Delaware; two daughters, Maryann DePietro and her husband, Frank O’Malley, Roseville, California; and Roxanne DePietro Hartman and her husband, Mark, Ellicott City, Maryland; seven grandsons, Thomas and his wife, Erika, Matthew, Patrick, Nicolas, Max, Tyler, and Zachary; one great-granddaughter, Gemma; as well as nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank Polito and Joseph Catanzarite; and three sisters, Carmella Harrison, Mary Phillips, and Lena Sydor.

Family and friends are invited to attend RoseMary’s funeral, which will be held on Monday, March 30, 2026, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Carlo Acutis Parish, St. Patrick’s Church, 200 Delaware Avenue, Olyphant. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Dunmore.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of Hudak-O’Shea & Gabriel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 115 N. Garfield Ave., Olyphant, PA.
