Carbondale

Richard F. Walicki, Sr., 77, of Carbondale, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 21, 2026. He is survived by his devoted partner of over 30 years, Mary E. Arnese.

Born in Boonton, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Frederick and Katherine (Good) Walicki. Richard was a man who found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved cooking and baking for those he cared about, spending time fishing, and making lasting memories camping in the Thousand Islands with grandsons Evan and Ethan. He also enjoyed numerous day trips to the Steamtown Train Station with the grandsons. Richard got great satisfaction in making his own kielbasa and sausage.

He is survived by his three children: Ricky Walicki, Jr., of South Abington Township; Kelly Burns and her husband, Eric, of Forest City; and Laurie Pompeo and her husband, John, of Phoenixville. He is also survived by his sister, Sandy Chervenak, of Shreveport, Louisiana.

Richard was a proud grandfather to four grandsons: Ryan and Mason Walicki, and Evan and Ethan Burns.

He will also be remembered by his special cousins, Denise Cecere, Bill Farkas, Peter Regal, along with several nieces and nephews.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Ferdinand Manahan, the compassionate care team of Residential Hospice, his cherished neighbor, Misty Kordish, and niece, Marlene Schofield and her husband, Fred for their kindness and support.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of the Lawrence A. Gabriel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 74 N. Main St., Carbondale.
