Michael J. Gillette, 52, Carbondale died unexpectedly Friday at home.

Born in Carbondale, son of William Gillette and the late Ann Wagner Gillette, Mike was a retired law enforcement officer for the Federal Bureau of Prisons. He enjoyed mentoring younger staff members in corrections and was an avid hunter, fisherman and Jimmy Johnson (#48) NASCAR fan. Mike also enjoyed his volunteer work with the Carbondale Little League and spending time at garage night with friends, especially Joe Tolerico who Mike considered a fourth brother. He also cherished time spent with his therapy dog, Delon.

In addition to his dad, he is survived by: three children, Megan Gillette, Jessup; Michael Gillette, Clifford; Julianna Gillette, Ohio; a granddaughter, Laynie Gillette, Jessup; three brothers, Bill Gillette and wife, Debbie, Waymart; Jeff Gillette and wife, Michele, Vandling; Steven Gillette and wife, Becky, Carbondale; four sisters, Lynn Stottlemire, Carbondale; Lisa Harach and husband, Lee, Simpson; Lori Gillette, Carbondale and Carol Gillette, Carbondale; several nieces and nephews.

Private services were held at the convenience of the family. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill at a future date.
