Madolyn Santanna Dempsey, 79, Carbondale, died at Thursday at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Carbondale on July 2, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Antoinette Pollitts Scoblick.
She was a graduate of Carbondale Benjamin Franklin High School and Marywood University (Scranton) with a master’s degree. She was a speech therapist for NEIU 19 for 25 years.
Madolyn was a very artistic person who loved painting pictures, playing the piano and listening to Italian Opera which could be heard throughout her entire neighborhood during the summer.
She was a proud member of UNICO, loved taking Italian classes and was lucky to have many friends who kept her busy.
Surviving are: a son, Ermond Santanna III and his wife, Mary Jo, Carbondale; a daughter, Michelle Santanna, Greenfield Twp.; three grandchildren, Ermond Santanna IV, Parsippany NJ; Anthony Santanna, Wilmington, DE.; and Gina Santanna, Carbondale; a very special godchild, Debbie Brady, Richmondale; two sisters, Elaine Wall, Patricia Rudalavage and husband, Conrad, all Carbondale; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ermond Santanna and her late husband, Charles Dempsey.
The funeral was held on Monday, January 8, 2018, from Lawrence A. Gabriel Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 2 Hospital St., Carbondale with Mass of Christian burial at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill.
A viewing was held on Sunday, January 7, 2018, from 3 pm until 7 pm.
