Leonard Rebernik

Leonard R. Rebernik, 98, Peckville, formerly of Carbondale, died Thursday at Carbondale Rehabilitation and Heathcare Center. His wife was the late Mildred Ross Rebernik.

Born in Browndale, son of the late Frank and Jenny Verboys Rebernik, he was an Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division Artillary. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church (Our Lady of the Rosary Parish), Carbondale; Local 100 Masonry Union; and the Browndale Sportsmen Club. Affectionately known as “Poppy”, he was an avid hunting and fishing enthusiast.

The family extends its sincere graititude to Dr. Neal Davis and his staff; and the staff at Carbondale Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center for their compassionate care.

Survivors include: a grandson, Ralph J. Sisson and wife Cathy, Jermyn; a grandson-in-law, Steve Stout, Peckville; four great grandchildren, Jeremy and Jillian Sisson, Jermyn; Jack Baronski and partner, Abigail Marion, Peckville; Brittany Dougherty and husband, Jimmy, Peckville; one great-great granddaughter, Clara Catherine Dougherty; several nieces, nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by: a son, Ralph E. Sisson; granddaughter, Valerie Stout; daughter-in-law, Catherine Mary Sisson; nine siblings; and in-laws.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5 pm until 7 pm at Lawrence A. Gabriel Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 74 N. Main St., Carbondale. A Blessing Service will be held at 6:45 pm. Online condolences may be sent to the funeral home website.
