Joseph W. Waibel

Joseph W. Waibel, 69, of Carbondale, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, with his family by his side. His loving wife of 23 years is Peggy Wise Waibel.

Born in Carbondale, Joseph was the son of the late Edward J. and Cora (Kilgannon) Waibel. A 1974 graduate of Carbondale Area High School, he was a member of the school’s football team that won a Suburban Conference title. He dedicated many years of his career to working as a railroad engineer. An avid golfer, Joe was a member of a Wednesday night golf league with his partner of many years, Dave Andidora and greatly enjoyed the camaraderie of his morning coffee klatch at Lapera’s Gas Station. Joe loved frequent travels to various Caribbean Islands with dear friends Gary and Anita McDonough and their family. At the time of his passing, he was employed by JW Transit Inc., where he took great pride in serving as the bus driver for the Carbondale Area Football Team.

In addition to his wife, Peggy, he is survived by two sons, Bryan Jordan and his wife Brenda, Carbondale, and Sean Jordan and his wife Nicole, Mayfield; one daughter, Shannon Andidora and her husband Nicholas, Carbondale; one sister, Mary Miller and her husband Donnie, Carbondale; one brother, John Waibel and his wife Cindy, Crystal Lake; eight grandchildren, Courtney Owen, Madison Jordan, Shayne Jordan, Nikkia Andidora, Mikayla Jordan, Colin Jordan, Nicholas Andidora, and Braylee Andidora; along with several nieces and nephews and countless friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 12, 2026, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lawrence A. Gabriel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 74 N. Main St., Carbondale. A blessing service will follow in the funeral home at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Seth D. Wasnock officiating.
