Joseph A. McGraw, 69, Richmondale, died Wednesday at home surrounded by his loving family. His wife of 47years is Cynthia Corrigan McGraw.

Born in Carbondale, son of the late Attorney Joseph T. and Dolores V. Kohut McGraw, he was a graduate of Carbondale Area. He then spent 35 years at SCI Waymart as a Food Service Supervisor. After retirement, he served as a cook at St. Francis Assisi Kitchen in Scranton. He was a member of the Red Shale Hunting Club in Orson and the Richmondale Hunting Club. Joe cherished spending time with family. He was a man for others. He enjoyed spending time taking care of the people he loved. He was a Fourth-Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He is a parishioner of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish, Carbondale.

The family extends its sincere gratitude to his “personal physician” Dr. Tara L. McGraw; His dedicated Sister-in-Law, Maria McGraw, CRNA, his doctors, caregivers and especially the staff at Intervention Radiology GCMC.

In addition to his wife, his survivors include: two sons, Attorney Joseph G. McGraw and wife, Heather, (Clifford Twp.); Patrick McGraw, (Richmondale); a granddaughter, Breanna Shidagis and husband, Stanley, (New Milford); great-grandson, Sebastian Shidagis, seven siblings, Kathleen Vaverchak and husband, Bill; Patricia McHale and husband, John, all of Carbondale; Lorraine Piatkowski and husband, Thomas; Thomas McGraw and wife, Cynthia, all of Vandling; Michael McGraw and wife, Maria, Anne McGraw, all of Carbondale; the Honorable Sean P. McGraw, Magisterial District Judge, and Karen Robson, Vandling; Brother-in-Law, Robert Corrigan and wife Sally, Sister-in-Law Patricia Penzone and Husband, James, all of Carbondale; nieces and nephews: James Penzone, Amy Frederici, John Penzone, Timothy Corrigan, Erin Mitchell; Dr. Tara L. McGraw; Gregory Corrigan, Michael J. McGraw, Caitlyn Corrigan, God Daughter, Kathleen Piatkowski; Dr. Matthew McGraw; Julia McGraw; great nieces and great nephews, Liam McGraw; Killian McGraw; Lucas McGraw; Jack Groblewski; Maeve McGraw; Emily Groblewski. He is also survived by his cousin, John E. Coyne, III(Wayne, PA).

He was preceded in death by two children, Gregory Joseph McGraw; Kelly Marie McGraw, and a sibling, Marybeth McGraw Peterson; brother-in-law Attorney Paul Peterson, father and mother in-Law, Gregory and Shirley Corrigan, and a cousin John M. Hart, Jr.

The funeral will be Saturday, July 18, 2026, from Lawrence A. Gabriel Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 74 N. Main St., Carbondale with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. In St. Rose of Lima Church (Our Lady of the Rosary Parish). Interment will follow at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill.

A viewing will be held on Friday, July 17, 2026, at the funeral home from 4 pm until 8 pm.
