Joseph W. Cosgrove, 88, Carbondale died Thursday at home. His wife is the former Joan Linder.

Born in Carbondale, son of the late Martin and Kathleen Neary Cosgrove, he was an Air Force veteran. He enjoyed watching sports on TV, especially Philadelphia Eagles football in his favorite chair, and fishing with his children years ago. He was a very religious person, kindhearted, good provider for his family, soft-spoken and never had a bad word to say about anyone. He worked at Yellow Freight as a dispatcher.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Joe Cosgrove and wife, Jen, New Jersey; Kenneth Cosgrove and wife, Margie, Carbondale; grandchildren, Katie Walker, Amanda Grogan, Kyle Cosgrove, Morgan Cosgrove, Joseph Cosgrove; a great-granddaughter, Octavia Skye Grogan; siblings, Thomas Cosgrove, New York and Ann Smilnak, Erie; several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale. Interment, Dunmore Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 9 until 10 a.m. in the church.
