Joan L. Acquisto, 91, Carbondale, died Wednesday at Carbondale Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Carbondale, daughter of the late Ross and Anna Chamaglichella Acquisto, she was a seamstress in the garment industry and later worked at Gentex. She was a St. Rose High School graduate. Joan was a Eucharistic Minister; Lay Missionary; Altar Server; and a member of prayer groups at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and St. Rose Churches. She taught religion classes at Mt. Carmel and was a hospice volunteer. Her patron Saint was Mother Teresa of Calcutta. Joan’s faith was most important to her. The family thanks the Carbondale Nursing Home staff for their wonderful care.
Surviving are: her niece and care-giver, Jill Brownell; niece, Donna Laury; niece, Anita Regan; several great nieces and a great nephew. She was preceded in death by a sister, Jane Brownell; a brother, Anthony Acquisto; and a nephew, James J. Brownell.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, October 6, at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Rosary’s Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Carbondale. Interment will follow at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill.
A viewing will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until Mass time. If so desired, in lieu of flowers, monetary donations, in memory of Joan Acquisto, may be sent to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, c/o Our Lady of the Rosary Parish, 6 N. Church St., Carbondale Pa. 18407.
