Frank L. DeNunzio, 79, formerly of Lake Ariel, died Thursday, January 25, 2024, at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton. His wife, the late Mildred (Burkhardt) DeNunzio died in December 2001.
Born in the Bronx, NY, son of the late Louis and Josephine (Carabella) DeNunzio, Frank was a graduate of Christopher Columbus HS (Bronx, NY). He was a proud United States Army Veteran. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1964, where he worked his way up to Staff Sergeant and eventually Tank Commander. He served during the Vietnam War for three years, eventually returning stateside in 1967 where he served an additional three years as a reservist, being discharged in 1967. He also played guitar as part of a band while stationed in Germany. Frank later worked as a union/teamster heavy equipment and construction crane operator, and truck driver for construction and steel companies for 31 years – Raymond International (Hackensack NJ), Evergreen Steel (LIC, NY), Hunterspoint Steel (LIC, NY). He later worked as a heavy equipment operator and snow plow operator for the Maintenance Department of The Hideout (Lake Ariel, PA). Shortly before his wife’s passing, he worked in the kitchen/dining services at Ceaser’s Cove Haven Resorts (Lakeville, PA). After retirement, Frank became the King of eBay. He enjoyed building models, especially of military equipment, and enjoyed playing his originally owned 1964 Guild Electric Guitar on his VOX SuperBeetle Amp, which he continued to play up to a decade ago. He loved the History and Discovery Channels and was an avid viewer of The Mystery of Oak Island, Pawn Stars, How’s It Made, and Judge Judy. He had a great affection for dogs (Danna, Stryper, Missy, Spot, Baby, and most recently, Buddy). He will be deeply missed by his family.
Frank’s survivors include a son, Frank L. DeNunzio Jr., and wife Rhonda, Lake Ariel; a daughter, Dawn McAndrew-Williams, and husband, James, Lake Ariel; 4 grandchildren, Ashley Godfrey, Kaitlyn DeNunzio, Emma DeNunzio, and Harley McAndrew; 2 great-grandchildren, Ace, and Ariel; as well as several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, Frank was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph DeNunzio; and 2 sisters, Roslyn Speziale, and Paulette Weber.
The funeral will be Saturday, February 3, 2024, with services at 1:00 p.m. in the Lawrence A. Gabriel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 74 North Main St., Carbondale. Public viewing will be held at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., before the service by Pastor Ken Claflin of Hamlin Assembly of God Church.
