Francis L. Veina, 72, Carbondale, died Thursday at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale. His wife is Debbie Roche Veina.
Born in Carbondale, son of the late Frank and Teresa Tochelli Veina, he was a Marine Corps veteran. He was a well-decorated Vietnam War veteran who was a two-time Purple Heart recipient. Francis retired as a corrections officer at SCI Waymart. He was a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart; Northeast Detachment Marine Corps League; Military Order of the Devil Dogs; American Legion Post 221; Knights of Columbus Council 7622; Carbondale Memorial Day Committee and was an Extraordinary Minister.
In addition to his wife, survivors include sons, John Veina and wife, Jennifer, Carbondale; and Jason Veina and wife, Jennifer, South Carolina; grandchildren, Morgan, Matthew, Zachary and Kayla; great-grandchildren, Grayson and Alexander; brothers, Michael Veina, South Carolina; and Anthony Veina, Carbondale; several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Monday from Lawrence A. Gabriel Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 74 N. Main St., Carbondale, with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Military honors will be held. Cremation will follow. Future interment in Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Twp.
A viewing will be held at the funeral home Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to the funeral home website.
