Eugene “Gene” Brenzel, 60, died Sunday.

He was raised in Jermyn and had homes in Glen Mills and Tampa Fla. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Penn State University. Prior to retirement, he worked in the insurance industry as a claims adjuster for Nationwide Insurance and Acuity Insurance for 37 years. Gene was a gentle and loving soul and made a positive impact on all those he encountered.

He was passionate about art and photography as he documented all our family trips with his picture taking. His art garnered awards for its creativity and beauty. Gene was a masterful cook and took great joy in entertaining for family and friends. He also had a passion for landscape design and along with his partner, Kevin Buente took great pride in their elaborate landscape creations at their homes.

Survivors: his sister, Donna Depoti and husband Joseph; his nephews, Jordon Depoti (Emily) and Christian Depoti; as well as his extended family, Shirley E. List (Merrill); Leslie Davies (Len Hirsh); Lisa Buente; Linda Schlemmer (Art); Stephen Buente (Lee); nieces and nephews, Christopher, Jeffrey, Matthew and Sean Buente; Tyler Rockhill; Matt Kracyla; Christian Towns; grandnieces and nephews, Mason; Calem; Anna; Ruby; many close friends, especially Dwight Bechtel and Jack Gilligan.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Joan Hladick Brenzel; his cousin, Elizabeth Delicati; as well as his loving partner, Kevin Buente.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 4 until 6 p.m. at Lawrence A. Gabriel Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 74 N. Main St., Carbondale. Online condolences may be sent to the funeral home website.
