Debbie Fay, 66, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2026, at Dunmore Healthcare Center, Dunmore.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Johanna Battenberg and Thomas Kane, she graduated from Central Scranton High School and Lackawanna County Vocational Technical School with a degree as a licensed practical nurse. Prior to her retirement, she spent many years at Allied Services Developmental Disabilities group home as an LPN. She spent her career as a nurse touching countless lives with her compassionate care and professionalism.
Debbie served her country and was proud to be in the United States Army. She was known for her strength, courage, kindness, and generosity. After being diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma, she fought with that same strength, courage, and grace.
Outside of her career as a nurse, she loved to spend time volunteering as a Girl Scout Leader. She loved to spend time with her family and plan family trips. She loved to read and had a library of books in her home. She also loved to bake and craft. Throughout her 66-year journey of life, she touched so many lives with her generosity and selflessness.
Her grandchildren brought her so much joy and happiness and she loved spending time with them. We’ll remember her as the heart of our family, whose love and encouragement shaped who we are today.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Dunmore Healthcare Center and Allied Services Hospice for their care.
Debbie is survived by six children, Debi Fay, Valerie Kutch, Paul Fay, Danita Fay, Desirae Lee, and Brianna Fay; two sisters, Cindy Slevenski and Johanna Gotay; three brothers, Thomas Kane, Timothy Kane, and Michael Kane; 18 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
