Carmel A. (Craparo) Casper, 89, Greenfield Township, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, March 23, 2024, surrounded by her loving family and friends. Her husband, the late Walter F. Casper, died on July 20, 2015.
Born in Carbondale, daughter of the late James and Theresa (Cerra) Craparo, she was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale. Carmel was a 1952 graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, 1956 graduate of Bloomsburg State Teacher’s College, and a passionate educator whose career spanned over 30 years, retiring from the Carbondale Area School District in 1996. She was the quintessential matriarch of her family and a loyal friend to many. She will be deeply missed.
Carmel’s survivors include, son, Atty. Walter F. Casper Jr., and his wife, Rebekah Gillette; grandson, Samuel Casper, Greenfield Township; granddaughter, Ella Casper, Fell Township; a very special niece, Mary Theresa Villano, who was like a daughter to Carmel; as well as nephew, Atty. Robert J. Dougher; several other nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Carmel was preceded in death by two sisters, Josephine (Craparo) Dougher and Mary Louise (Craparo) Villano; and a grandson, Elijah Joseph Casper.
The funeral will be Wednesday, March 27, 2024, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill.
