Betty Taylor, 94, of Old Forge, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 26, 2026. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Anthony Viercinski.
Born in Blakely, she was the daughter of the late William and Anna Taylor. Betty attended Blakely High School and was a devoted member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church for many years.
Betty’s life was truly well lived. She believed that a meaningful life was one spent helping others, caring for family and friends, and easing the burdens of neighbors during times of illness or hardship. Her unwavering loyalty, kindness, and generosity touched countless lives. She was admired by all who knew her for her genuine compassion and selfless spirit.
A talented seamstress throughout her adult life, Betty possessed remarkable skill and attention to detail. She worked in the garment industry during her younger years, where her exceptional craftsmanship earned her the opportunity to create sample garments for New York fashion showrooms. She also lovingly designed and created beautiful clothing for both adults and children.
Although Betty had no children of her own, she was deeply devoted to her nieces and nephews, who adored her and often regarded her as a second mother. She leaves behind her devoted nephew, Al Cleary, who lovingly cared for her until the very end of her life. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews: Diana, Tina, Mark, Randy, Tom, Michael, Debbie, Robbie, Richie, John, Karen, and Greg, great-nieces and great-nephews whom she loved beyond measure, as well as several godchildren in her family including Ralph Antenori
In addition to her husband, Betty was preceded in death by her sister, Delores Cleary, and her brothers, Francis, Jack, George, and Bill Taylor. She is survived by her brother-in-law, Alfred Cleary of Jessup.
As she lived her life giving generously to others, Betty chose to continue giving even after her passing by donating her body for medical research. She often said that future doctors need opportunities to learn and that her donation could help make that possible. It was one final act of generosity from a woman whose life was defined by faith, kindness, and service to others.
In accordance with her wishes, private family services will be held at a later date.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of the Lawrence A. Gabriel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 2 Hospital St., Carbondale.
