Ann Opeil, 75, of Carbondale, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Her beloved husband, Ronald “Scribby” Opeil, passed away in December of 2024.
Born in Carbondale, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Margaret (Gabriel) Guzzi. Prior to retirement, she worked for the Pennsylvania State Treasury Department. Ann took pride in being a super voter in Pennsylvania. She was very politically active and was a member of the Federation of Democratic Women. She was also a member of Elkview Country Club where she golfed with some of her closest friends. Ann also loved playing cards with her grandchildren, spending time with her great grandchildren, laughing with her sisters, baking Italian delicacies, crafting, entertaining, and lunch with her friends.
Ann’s survivors include three daughters, Kelly Cerminaro and her husband Frank “Turk”, of Fell Township; Pam Scarpa and her partner John Swift, of Blakely; Roselyn Durkin and her husband Patrick, of Carbondale; nine grandchildren, Bailey Brady and fiancé Samantha Arthur, Robbie Scarpa, Lucca Cerminaro, Gigi Cerminaro, Grazia Cerminaro, Abigail Carachilo, Sean Durkin and his wife Corinne, Conor Durkin, and Patrick Durkin; 3 great-grandchildren, Safira Brady, Elora Brady, and Chase Durkin; 3 sisters, Kathy Fawcett, of Mayfield; Valerie Gallo, of Jermyn; and Debbie Thomas, of Jermyn; several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and countless friends.
The family would like to thank Nurse Judy and Home Health Care Professionals, the staff with Home Instead and all of the caregivers who made Ann’s final journey in life peaceful and comfortable.
The funeral will be Monday, August 3, 2026, from Lawrence A. Gabriel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 2 Hospital St., Carbondale, with Mass of Christian of Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Rosary Parish, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook St., Carbondale. Rite of committal and interment will follow in Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill.
Family and friends are invited to attend Ann’s viewing which will be held on Sunday, August 2, 2026, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
