ALICE MANG IS DEAD

Yes, you read that correctly.

Alice Mang has officially retired from her favorite position: the porch on the hill of South Main.

For years, that porch was her command center. From there, she watched the cars, monitored the neighborhood, kept tabs on everyone’s business, and somehow knew what was going on before anyone else did.

Alice also had absolutely no problem telling you exactly what she thought. You didn’t have to ask her opinion. In fact, you probably shouldn’t have.

She loved her children, candy, pastries, lottery tickets, winter, snow, bus trips with her sister, backyard picnics, dressing up, and talking with Sally, Ann, and Patsy.

She also loved feeding people, usually with her specialties: Ellio’s pizza, Mrs. T’s pierogies, and mashed potatoes.

Alice had an open-door policy. You didn’t need an invitation. You just showed up.

She wasn’t someone you simply met. She was someone you remembered.

There will never be another Alice Mang. The porch on South Main will be quieter now, but the stories will live on. Some sweet, some hilarious, and some probably best left untold.

Rest easy, Alice.

Alice is survived by: three sons, John “Jack” Mang, Carbondale; Michael Mang, Carbondale; Patrick Mang, Olyphant; two daughters, Linda Gigliotti and husband, James, Carbondale; Ruth “Dolly” Juliano and husband, Dr. Paul Juliano, Hershey; grandchildren, Jimmy Gigliotti; Heidi Slegowski; JJ Ritzco; Marco Gigliotti; Melissa Enders; Michael Gigliotti; Brittany Mang; McKenzie Mang; Madison Mang; 15 great grandchildren ; a sister, Patsy Neary, Carbondale. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Mang; her parents, Edward and Sally Mannion Moylan; a grandson, Russell Mang; two sisters, Anne Price; Mary O’Millian; two brothers, Teddy Moylan; Jimmy Moylan.

A service and interment will be held at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery a later date.
